Crowns & Bridges

When it comes to restoring damaged, unhealthy or broken teeth, crowns are a brilliant way to enhance your smile and keep your teeth in good condition for years to come.

Bridges are another superb solution to replacing missing teeth by placing a false tooth in the gap. This tooth is attached to its adjacent teeth or its abutments by covering them with caps.

The benefits of Bridges and Crowns include…

  • Restores and enhances your smile

  • Restores your ability to properly chew and speak

  • Maintains the shape of your face

  • Distributes the forces in your bite properly

  • Prevents remaining teeth from drifting out of position

Appointment 1

Your first appointment will include taking impressions of your mouth before and after your tooth has been prepared for its crown or bridge. The preparation consists of trimming down your tooth (or the bridge’s abutment tooth) to a shape ideal for the crown or abutment to attach to with maximum retention.

A temporary crown will be placed over the prepared tooth to prevent sensitivity and tooth movement whilst you wait for your next appointment.

Appointment 2

2 weeks later your brand new crown or bridge will have returned from the laboratory. Now we are able to cement your crown to your prepared tooth with high quality dental cement. The dentist will ensure your occlusion (how you bite) is correct on your new tooth and will advise you on how to increase the longevity of your new crown or bridge.

Sometimes additional appointments to those described above are required to ensure your crown or bridge is perfect. Your dentist will ensure you are made aware of any alterations to this schedule.
